Chillin' out maxxin' in the Vatican with Will Smith!

Did you know that before his breakout role as ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ Will Smith was actually a pilot episode for an entirely different show called ‘The Fresh Prince of the Vatican’? In the early 1990s there was a push for more religious shows on television, especially with Black representation. Will Smith was asked to shoot a 30 minute pilot for the Vatican to bring tourism to the city state. Unfortunately due to unfavorable initial testing, as well as issues with filming permissions within the Vatican for extended periods of time, the show was scrapped. For the better or for the worse? Only time will tell. Many believed it could have been the start of a wholesome career for Smith. Instead the Bel Air counter series was shot and launched him into stardom.
